Man and Van Driver Earnings

Most job ads quote the customer price. This page shows what actually lands in your account: £36-£49.50 per billable hour by van size (your 90% share), £216-£297 for a solid 6-hour day, up to £450 for a Saturday Luton shift at 1.3x - and the fuel, insurance and tax that come out afterwards.

Man and van drivers on TowManVan earn £36-£49.50 per billable hour depending on van size - that is the driver's 90% share, not the customer price. A 6-billable-hour day grosses £216-£297 and a full-time week £1,100-£1,500. Fuel, insurance and maintenance come out of that; tips do not - you keep 100%.

The hourly ladder and what a day pays

Small van, per billable hour£36
SWB / MWB van, per billable hour£40.50
LWB van, per billable hour£45
Luton van, per billable hour£49.50

Steady day, 4 billable hours£144-£198
Busy day, 6 billable hours£216-£297
Saturday Luton day at 1.3x weekend rateup to £450

Every figure is the driver's 90% share, shown before costs. Weekend and evening bookings pay 1.3x your hourly rate, stairs surcharges are added when there is no lift, and tips are passed to you in full. Budget £15-£30 a day for fuel and £1,200-£2,500 a year for the three required insurance policies combined.

What you need (and what it costs you)

Your own van - small, SWB/MWB, LWB or Luton; each step up the ladder earns a higher hourly rate
Full UK driving licence and the right to work in the UK
Goods-in-transit insurance with at least £10,000 of cover
Public liability insurance
Hire-and-reward motor cover - the three policies together typically cost £1,200-£2,500 a year
Valid MOT and a smartphone for the driver app

What each van size earns

Small van
£36/hr share. Single-item moves, marketplace collections and student boxes. Cheapest to fuel and insure, so the net per hour holds up well.
SWB / MWB van
£40.50/hr share. Flat-shares, one-bed moves and multi-drop days - the volume workhorse with the steadiest stream of bookings.
LWB van
£45/hr share. Two-bed moves and trade deliveries. Longer bookings mean the 2-hour minimum rarely matters - most jobs run 3-4 hours.
Luton van
£49.50/hr share and the longest bookings on the platform. A full Saturday at the 1.3x weekend rate is the best day available - up to £450 gross.
