Real earnings, real hours, real support
TowManVan was built by working recovery drivers who were tired of Uber-style marketplaces that squeeze the operator to subsidise customer discounts. The commission is transparent, the hours are yours to set, and the ops team is a phone call away - not a chatbot that funnels you to an FAQ page at midnight.
Average earnings for a full-time recovery driver running a single flatbed in a major UK city sit between £900 and £1,500 per week after platform fee. That works out to roughly £45,000 to £75,000 per year, paid in cleared Friday bank transfers with an itemised earnings summary and monthly tax statement. Heavy-night-shift drivers who work Friday and Saturday overnight hit the top end comfortably.
Man-and-van operators earn between £1,100 and £1,600 per week on a forty-hour schedule, with removals drivers hitting £2,000 per week during peak end-of-month weekends. Nobody sends you jobs forty miles away that you have to reject - the dispatch algorithm prioritises operators already on a sensible route and rotates top work fairly across the partner pool.
What you need to get signed off
Every document on this list is non-negotiable - both for insurance reasons and because customer trust depends on it. That said, the verification pipeline is fast: most drivers are approved and dispatching within seventy-two hours of submitting a complete pack.
Driving licence and ID
Full UK photocard licence, held for at least two years, with no more than six active penalty points. Non-UK licences are accepted if held for more than twelve months and supported by a valid biometric residence permit or pre-settled-status document.
Vehicle and MOT
Recovery drivers need a flatbed or spec-lift rated for at least 3.5 tonnes. Man-and-van operators need anything from a SWB Transit to a Luton with tail lift. All vehicles must be under 12 years old, have a current MOT, and be liveried to TowManVan partner-branding standards after approval.
Insurance
Hire-and-reward insurance for recovery work, goods-in-transit for man-and-van. Minimum £1,000,000 public liability cover, £10,000 GIT for van operators. TowManVan has a preferred-broker panel that will usually beat your current premium if you take up a new policy on approval.
Background check
Enhanced DBS check, which TowManVan pays for on your behalf. Spent convictions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act are generally not a blocker, but violent, sexual and fraud-related convictions rule out customer-facing partner work.
What the ops team actually does for you
A marketplace is only as good as the support behind it. TowManVan runs a dedicated partner-ops desk in Birmingham staffed around the clock - every active operator has a named regional ops manager on WhatsApp, plus a live dispatch line that averages an eighteen-second pickup at three in the morning.
- Dispute arbitration. If a customer challenges a job - damage, delay, disputed fee - the ops team reviews the dashcam, operator notes and in-app message log before any chargeback touches your earnings. Operators win 83 percent of disputes outright.
- Damage and incident support. Photo-based triage runs inside the app. If something goes wrong mid-job, the ops manager is on the line inside two minutes with clear next steps, including roadside photo coaching for insurance claims.
- Weekly and monthly reporting. A plain-language earnings summary lands in your email every Friday, with a detailed monthly statement for your accountant. HMRC-ready, CSV-exportable, and sorted by job type.
- Kit and PPE discounts. The partner portal gives quarterly negotiated prices on booster packs, strap sets, hi-vis, dashcams and tyre inflators through a vetted supplier list. No upselling, no referral commission to TowManVan - just lower costs.
- Training and ride-alongs. Every new operator rides along with a top-tier existing partner for the first shift, free of charge, and can book refresher sessions on EV 12V boosting, Luton load-securing or narrow-street access any time.
Partner FAQs
The questions we hear most often from drivers considering the switch from breakdown memberships, fleet employment or other marketplaces. If yours is not here, WhatsApp the partner-ops line on the number shown inside the driver app.
Who can sign up as a TowManVan driver?
Anyone over 21 with a full UK driving licence, the appropriate vehicle for their service type (recovery truck, van, Luton) and valid insurance can apply. Drivers must pass a DBS check and document verification before onboarding.
Do I need my own vehicle?
Yes. TowManVan is a partner model - recovery drivers need a recovery truck or flatbed, man-and-van operators need a van from SWB Transit to Luton, and removals drivers ideally need a Luton with a tail lift. A vehicle finance partner is available if you are upgrading.
How much can I earn?
Recovery drivers typically earn £800 to £1,500 per week completing three to five jobs per day at £60 or more each. Man-and-van operators earn £1,200 to £1,600 per week at £40 per hour. Removals drivers can reach £2,000 per week with two full bookings per day.
How quickly do I get paid?
Every Friday by bank transfer. Complete a job on Monday, the payout lands the same Friday. No 30-day invoice cycles, no chasing clients for payment, no PayPal lockups.
Is there a joining fee?
None. No joining fee, no monthly subscription, no compulsory kit purchase. TowManVan takes a small commission per completed job - you only pay when you earn, and the commission rate is visible up front in the partner agreement.
How long does verification take?
Document verification and DBS checks typically complete within 1 to 2 working days. Once approved, you can go live in the driver app and start accepting jobs immediately - most new operators clear their first £500 inside the opening week.
What support does the ops team provide?
Every operator gets a named regional ops manager, a 24/7 dispatcher hotline, on-demand photo-based damage support, customer-dispute arbitration, weekly earnings summaries and quarterly kit discounts on booster packs, strap sets and PPE through the partner portal.
Can I work part-time or around another job?
Yes. You set your own hours in the driver app - go online when you want work, offline when you do not. There is no minimum hours commitment and no penalty for turning jobs down, though acceptance rate above 85 percent unlocks preferred-dispatch status.
