Bed and Mattress Delivery, Same Day

A king size mattress does not fold into any car, and strapping one to a roof risks a fine and ruins the mattress. TowManVan delivers beds and mattresses same day from £35 an hour: sealed mattress bags for hygiene, frames dismantled and rebuilt if booked, and a fixed price locked in before you confirm.

Bed and mattress delivery with TowManVan costs £35-£60 per hour depending on van size, with a 2-hour minimum, so most local single-bed deliveries come to £70-£90 all-in. Your driver loads, seals the mattress in a transit bag, and can dismantle and reassemble the frame if you add that at booking.

Why beds and mattresses are the awkward ones

Mattresses sit in a frustrating middle ground: far too big for any car, yet not enough of a job to justify a full removals crew. A standard UK double measures 190cm by 135cm and a king 200cm by 150cm. Neither goes into a hatchback or most estates, even with the seats down. Memory foam tolerates a brief bend; a pocket-sprung mattress does not, because folding it damages the spring pockets and usually voids the manufacturer warranty.

The tempting shortcut, strapping the mattress to a roof, is worse than it looks. Carrying an insecure load is an offence under UK road traffic law, with a fine and possible points if it shifts, and even a well-tied mattress acts like a sail at motorway speed. The ratchet straps tight enough to hold it crease the foam and can crack the border rod. It puts the mattress, your licence and the drivers behind you all at risk to save one short van journey.

Bed frames are the easy part because they come apart. A divan base does not: it is a rigid box nearly the size of the mattress it carries, which makes it the classic tight-turn item on staircases. Getting a double divan around a half landing is a two-person job of angles and patience, which is exactly what your driver, plus an optional second helper at £12 per hour, is there for.

Bed sizes vs van sizes and prices

All rates include the driver, fuel and the first 15 miles; distance beyond that is charged per mile at the rate shown in the app. Weekend and evening bookings are 1.3x. A second helper is £12/hr - worth it for divans, tight staircases and anything above the second floor.

How your bed and mattress travel

A mattress is the one item in the house you sleep face-down on, so hygiene in transit is not a detail. Here is what happens between your old bedroom and your new one.

Sealed mattress bag
Every mattress goes into a polythene mattress bag before it leaves the bedroom, so it never touches the pavement, the stairwell or the van floor. It arrives as clean as it left.
Frames down and up again
Add dismantle and reassemble at booking and the driver arrives with tools, breaks the frame into flat sections, and rebuilds it in the new room. Typically 20-40 minutes extra.
Divans and staircases
A divan base does not come apart, so half landings and tight turns take technique. Drivers do this daily; for anything above the second floor add a second helper at £12/hr.
Strapped, never stacked
Mattresses ride flat or upright against the van wall, strapped so nothing slides onto them. Frames and headboards are blanket-wrapped to protect corners and finishes.

New-bed day, one run

The best moment to get rid of an old mattress is the day its replacement arrives, yet most retailers will not touch the old one. TowManVan runs the whole day as a single job: the driver collects your new bed from the store or seller, carries it to the bedroom, then takes the old mattress to a charity shop or your local recycling centre on the same run. One hourly rate covers the whole loop, instead of paying a delivery fee and then a separate collection charge on another day.

Two things worth knowing before you book. Charities only accept mattresses that are clean and still have the fire-safety label sewn on, so check the label before choosing the donation option. And if the old mattress is past donating, recycling beats fly-tip risk every time: mattress recycling recovers the steel, foam and fibre rather than sending the whole thing to landfill.

Store collections, student halls and flatshare swaps

Bought a bed in a sale, only to find the retailer's own delivery window is three weeks out? Same-day store collection is one of the most common bed jobs we run. Book in the app, share the order reference with your driver in chat, and the bed is in your bedroom the same afternoon. Marketplace and private-seller collections work exactly the same way: send the seller's address, the driver handles the pickup, and because the price is fixed before you confirm there is no renegotiation at either doorstep.

Student halls and flatshares are the other regulars. A single mattress and a flat-packed frame fit a small van with room to spare, and a bed swap between two addresses across town usually finishes inside the 2-hour minimum: £70 on a weekday. There is no membership and no joining fee, so a one-off September bed run costs exactly what the app says and nothing more. Moving the whole room as well? A student removals booking bundles the bed with everything else in one trip.
