SE10 holds two Greenwiches: the cobbled World Heritage core round the Cutty Sark, and the peninsula with its arena, towers and tunnel approach, and work has to suit both. Costs open at £49 and are confirmed to you in advance of anyone setting out. Jump starts, key-free entry, fuel runs, tyre fitting and flatbed lifting, at any hour, and no membership involved.
SE10 costs open at £49, confirmed to you before anyone leaves the yard. Operators aim to be alongside inside 22 minutes across the town centre, Maze Hill, Westcombe Park and the peninsula. Trafalgar Road, Creek Road or the A102 serve, depending which side of the park you are on. There is no fee for coming out, no membership involved, and three in the morning changes the total not at all.

Cars left parked while owners commute by DLR go flat. Boost, then output tested.
Cobbles and kerbing near the market ruin sidewalls. Fitted where the car stands.
Keys locked in at the O2 decks or a Trafalgar Road bay. Opened without any damage.
Empty in the tunnel approach queue, or wrong fuel nearby. Corrected at the roadside.
Faults read before the car is loaded. Many SE10 calls finish at the kerb.
The A102 drops into the Blackwall Tunnel with a long approach that regularly backs up, and there is nowhere legal or sensible to stop on it. Vehicles that fail inside or on the approach are dealt with by the tunnel's own recovery arrangements first, because the priority is clearing the bore. Once the car is out on the surface road, the flatbed takes over. Never walk in a live tunnel lane.
Trafalgar Road carries the A206 through east Greenwich as a red route for much of its length, which means stopping is prohibited rather than merely awkward. Bus lanes, side turnings and shop parades leave very few safe places to load. Crews get the casualty off the red route into a side street before working on it. Sitting on a red line waiting invites a penalty on top of the breakdown.
Around the market, College Approach and the lanes towards Ballast Quay, the surface is granite sett rather than tarmac and the streets are narrow, bollarded and often pedestrianised in the daytime. Skates do not run well on cobbles, and a low car scrapes. Loading is done on the nearest tarmac, with the casualty brought out under control. Servicing hours matter here, so the time of day genuinely changes the plan.
The peninsula changes character entirely when the O2 has a show on. Roads that were quiet at six are one-way systems with marshals and closed turns by eight, and the car parks empty in a single wave afterwards. Give a car park name, a level and a bay when you book. Working with the event traffic plan rather than against it is what actually gets a truck to the vehicle.
Central Greenwich runs a controlled parking zone with short maximum stays and heavy enforcement, which is understandable given the number of visitors. A car that has failed in a pay-and-display bay is still a car in a bay with a time limit. Photograph the situation, and get the vehicle moved rather than left overnight. Where a recovery has to wait, the operator will advise on the least exposed place to leave it.
The land rises sharply from the river to the park and beyond towards Blackheath. Maze Hill, Crooms Hill and the roads around them are steep, narrow and parked on both sides. A car with no drive, no brakes or a jammed selector must be chocked before anything is attempted. Bringing a vehicle down a hill like that is done on a line under control, never by letting it find its own way.
The newer peninsula housing, Millennium Village and the blocks around Peninsula Quays, keeps its parking in undercrofts and gated basements with stated headroom. A flatbed will not be following you in. The workable method is to bring the car up to street level using skates or a shallow dolly and load it there. Send the height on the barrier sign when you book and the right equipment turns up.
The riverfront north of the town centre ends in a series of dead ends: the foot tunnel rotunda, Ballast Quay, the old wharf frontages. They are attractive, tight, and awful to reverse a truck out of. Bollards limit width and some of them flood on a spring tide. Where a car has stopped down there, it comes out to the through road before anything is lifted onto a bed.
Creek Road crosses Deptford Creek on a bridge that ties Greenwich to Deptford and carries almost everything heading west. Traffic is dense, the bus flow is constant and there is no shoulder. West of the bridge the industrial frontages leave few gaps. A car that stops on the bridge itself needs to be moved promptly, so the first action is usually to get it rolling to the far side and off the main line.
