How IKEA collection works
If you booked online click-and-collect, you do not even need to go inside: collect at the drive-up bay, roll the trolley to the van, and the driver takes it from there. Many customers book the van from the checkout queue and find it waiting before they have wheeled the trolley across the car park.
Why not just squeeze it into the car?
Everyone has tried. The seats go down, the parcel shelf comes out, and the PAX box still hangs half a metre past the boot. IKEA's biggest sellers are exactly the items that defeat a car: the frame packs for a 236cm PAX wardrobe are well over two metres long, MALM bed sides are not far behind, and a rolled mattress fills a boot on its own. Pricing is simple and hourly: £35/hour for a small van, £45/hour for a medium van, £60/hour for a Luton, always with the driver included and a 2-hour minimum. The first 15 miles are included in every booking, with a per-mile rate beyond that, and weekend or evening bookings run at 1.3x. Need extra muscle for wardrobes or a top-floor flat? A second helper is £12/hour.
In practice, most IKEA collections are two-hour jobs. Store to home within 15 miles, loading at the bay, and carrying boxes to the right rooms: that is £70 in a small van or £90 in a medium van, all-in. Compare that with the cost of a wasted Saturday, a scratched roof, or paying a delivery fee and then waiting three days for the sofa you already own.
