Appliance delivery with TowManVan costs £35-£60 per hour depending on van size, with a 2-hour minimum and the first 15 miles included. A typical local washing machine or fridge freezer delivery costs £70-£114 all-in, including a two-person lift. The price is fixed in the app before you confirm - no doorstep renegotiation.

What appliance delivery costs

Pricing is hourly - small van £35/hr, medium £45/hr, Luton £60/hr - with a 2-hour minimum, so the figures below are what a typical local job actually comes to. The app quotes your exact fixed price before you confirm, and that number does not change at the door.

How we move each appliance

White goods get damaged by shortcuts: a fridge laid flat, a washer with a loose drum, a cooker dragged over a doorstep. Every TowManVan driver carries an appliance trolley, ratchet straps and blankets, and measures the appliance against your doorways and hallway turns before lifting anything. Here is the honest version of what each appliance needs.

Washing machines
The drum is the weak point. If you still have the transit bolts, fit them before the driver arrives - they lock the drum solid for the journey. No bolts? We move the machine anyway, upright and strapped to the trolley, but the drum can shift in transit and that risk sits with you. Drain the machine and disconnect the hoses before pickup; a bin bag over the hose ends stops drips on your floor.
Fridge freezers
Upright, always, wherever the route allows it. Tilting a fridge lets compressor oil run into the cooling lines, which is why we tell every customer the same thing: leave it standing for 4 hours at the new address before switching on. If it stayed vertical the whole way you can plug in sooner, but the 4-hour settle costs nothing and protects the compressor. Empty and defrost it the night before.
Cookers and ovens
Electric cookers we carry without fuss - just have them unplugged or safely isolated. Gas cookers must be disconnected by a Gas Safe registered engineer before we arrive, and reconnected by one at the other end. We will not touch a live gas connection and neither should anyone who is not registered. Range cookers are a Luton-and-tail-lift job because of the weight.
Dishwashers
Run a final empty cycle, drain fully, disconnect the inlet and waste hoses, and tape the door shut. Residual water is the usual mess-maker with dishwashers, so the driver will tip it slightly at the doorstep to check before it goes in the van. They travel upright, blanket-wrapped, strapped to the side wall.
Tumble dryers
Empty the condenser tank and clear the lint filter before pickup, and pull the vent hose off if yours has one. Dryers are lighter than washers with no drum bolts to worry about, so a single driver usually handles one - though stairs or a long carry still justify the £12/hr second helper.

Store collections and private sales

From Currys, AO and collection points

Bought the appliance but the retailer's own delivery slot is a week away, or collection-only pricing was cheaper? Add the order or collection reference when you book and the driver presents it at the desk, loads the boxed appliance upright, and brings it straight to your kitchen rather than your kerb. Same-day slots mean a machine bought this morning can be running tonight - fridge settle time permitting.

From Facebook Marketplace, eBay and Gumtree

Second-hand white goods are a bargain until you have to collect them from a third-floor flat across town. Give us the seller's address and phone number at booking: the driver calls ahead, confirms the item matches what you bought, and handles the lift with the seller's stairs included in your fixed price. You do not even need to be there.

Taking the old one away

Your old appliance can travel on the same run - to a household recycling centre or to a charity - if you add it when you book, so the extra stop is priced into your fixed quote. Two things worth knowing before you choose the drop-off: many council recycling centres require a resident permit or a pre-booked slot for van access, and charities will only accept appliances in working order. Check both, then let the driver do the carrying.

What is included - and what we honestly do not do

We are a delivery and collection service, not a gas or plumbing trade, and we would rather tell you that on this page than at your door. Every driver is DBS-checked and carries goods-in-transit insurance (£10,000 minimum) plus public liability cover.

Included as standard

  • Two-person lift for heavy white goods (second helper £12/hr)
  • Appliance trolley, straps and blankets on every van
  • Doorways and hallways measured before anything is lifted
  • Store and collection-point pickups (Currys, AO and similar)
  • Private-sale collections with a call-ahead to the seller
  • Old appliance to a recycling centre or charity on the same run

Not offered - book a specialist

  • Gas cooker disconnection or reconnection (Gas Safe engineer required)
  • Plumbing washing machines or dishwashers in at the new address
  • Hard-wiring electric cookers into the cooker circuit

Gas work is a legal matter, not a judgement call: only a Gas Safe registered engineer may disconnect or reconnect a gas cooker. Arrange the disconnection before your slot and we will take it from there.
